Our Book Submission Guidelines
& how we work
We receive manuscripts on a rolling basis. We are open to receive:
– poetry or prose poems for chapbook
– collections of flash or micro fiction
– cookbooks
– coffee table graphic narratives, sequential artwork
– combinations of the above (tightly linked by theme, image, voice, etc.)
Guidelines (we do not review manuscripts that do not follow our guidelines):
All pieces must be your own. They can be previously published though you must own the rights. Be sure to let is know when you submit the poems, which ones are previously submitted, where published and when.
Manuscripts should consist of 8-12 legal size numbered pages (one poem per page).
Send as one Word document attachment.
Send us a cover letter that shares more about who you are and why you would like to work with us. Include any social media handles, too!
About us:
We publish works by Black and brown women and nonbinary people.
We give priority to voices that are marginalized.
We are looking to publish microbooks that delight and are pleasurable. With the understanding that there are many other publishing companies who emphasize painful journey, we are holding space for the delicious celebrations that come with being a woman of color.
How we work:
If we fall in love with your collection, you will receive an email from us asking if we may publish your collection.
If you agree with our outline, we will work together to find a publishing date. There may be some slight edits we make but send us your best, most complete work so there aren’t many changes to be made. We will also help you with a cover design using our in-house designer.
We are not responsible for setting up book signings and other events though we can guide you through the process and support you as much as possible.
We will add you to our online catalogue for online sells and coach you on how to market and sell your book.
More details will be given in the contract for you to decide if you would like to be published by Lillian & Ruby.
